Not sure that the title to this one doesn't just say about all there is to say about my birthday.
Being the child of a doctor, I only go in to the doctor if I am pregnant or if there is some sort of major medical catastrophe. As neither applies currently, I have the office run a general health panel once a year just to check and make sure everything is on the up and up. I did one this year and everything came back normal until my obnoxious doctor for a father decided we should do a test for diabetes. I have diabetes with both sets of grandparents and a number of my aunts and uncles have it. As luck would have it apparently so do I. In an attempt to keep diabetes off my medical chart, I decided it was time to get healthy. I have sworn off sugar and all simple starches. (Easier said than done for one who has a sweet tooth and loves pasta more than anything else.) Luckily, I, along with the genetic predisposition for diabetes, I have a genetic predisposition for stubbornness. The beauty of a birthday is that for one day you can break all the rules.
My kids were so excited for my birthday and they were sooo cute I couldn't believe it. They all know how I love to sleep in and so Jordyn got up really early in the morning to make me breakfast in bed. She made me chocolate pudding and toast with Diet Dr. Pepper. It was awesome! She got Alex up and he helped get everything ready and they brought a pen and pad into my room in case I needed anything. Alex even brought a nalgene and a spoon that I was supposed to bang in case they didn't hear me calling for something. They got the baby up and changed and turned on a movie for her. (Of course, since I couldn't eat the chocolate pudding, they all had chocolate pudding for breakfast. Definitely a success!)
As the oldest two headed off to school, Damion and Rhee and I spent a day at home watching TV episodes I missed online and catching any random movie that looked good on Netflix.
When Wyatt got home, we ditched the kids with a babysitter and headed out to the town. We went to the Olive Garden where I enjoyed way too many bread sticks and my usual chicken parmesan. I don't think I have ever enjoyed the Olive garden so much! Then we spent the rest of the night shopping in all the stores where we always feel rushed with the kids in tow.....Best Buy...Barnes and Noble....you know... every place that requires actually looking at different options before you grab something and take off with bored kids.
All in all it was a great birthday!
